What Does Love Mean To You?

Happy Valentine's Day ...(in arrears, of course.!).
Yesterday seemed memorable for a lot of people all over the world. From the red roses, chocolates and gift items to the countries that had the Valentine’s Day Celebration banned. I can imagine the reasons behind the ban, but I digress.

But in this celebration, it is important to understand the reason for the celebration and the essence of celebrating Love.

What does the word “Love” mean to you...?

This is a simple question that can be the most difficult to answer, and I’m not going to get all spiritual and give the all perfect definition of Love from 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7.

To so many people, it is the feeling of inexplicable attraction, the fairy tale sensation, the beautiful gifts, nice places and the butterflies in the belly kind of aura, but I’d like to believe that there’s more to love than just all that.

To me, the idea of being in love with someone who first understands who you are, what you are all about, and someone you are completely comfortable with. Love is not just by words or verbal expression. It’s unfortunate that a lot of people feel that by saying “I love you”, it automatically translates to the feeling of love. Eventually this leads to one being hurt, giving the impression of being “hurt by the ones who love us".

Love is an action word, which implies that at most times, if you truly love someone, it should be evident in your actions and not just in words alone.

Love is being able to make the other person’s interest your priority.

Love is saying “Yes, you have these flaws, and you can be crazy sometimes, but I still love you anyways”.

Love goes beyond the material items and physical outlook , of course I’m not saying that they are not essential, but if you make these things the basis of a love relationship, it is going to end badly, because what happens when the basis of the relationship is no longer available? , the “Love” fizzles away.

It’s also safe to say that Love is also about looking out for the progress and happiness of the other person. If I love you, of course I would love to see you succeed, as your success is my success, as well as your happiness.

On a more subtle perspective, Love is about appreciating yourself and giving yourself some self-worth. A lot of people fall in and out of love because they do not even love themselves in the first place. They then get caught in the dynamics of life and relationships with that same persona, and before you can figure it out, things have gone pretty bad. Love is being motivated to be the best version of yourself that you can possibly be because you’re so passionate about the other person.

Love means knowing that no matter what, you have someone you can trust and count on. It’s unconditional and makes you feel god on the inside. You can trust the person you love and you are comfortable around them.

When Love is right, your heart would be in sync with the feeling. Love shouldn’t be hurtful or depressing.

I can go on and on about what love is about, but these are the basics for me, from my own perspective. I’d appreciate it if you can share from your own perspective what love means to you.
