Traveling Light: A Guide To Minimalist Packing

Traveling is one of the most exciting and adventurous hobby/interest to invest in. However, there are several things to take into consideration when embarking on a journey. I'm not a regular traveler;but in my little experience of traveling, I've come to understand that planning ahead of time and packing light are two key factors to take into consideration.

When it comes to traveling, a lot of people like to go the extra mile to pack EVERYTHING into their luggage. At the end of the day, they tend to forget a whole lot of things they actually need. In my case, i try to pack light, ensuring that I get the basics I need and keep everything  simple and easy, thus making my journey a more comfortable one.

If you're a first-time traveler, or you intend traveling in the most comfy way, I'd like to share a few tips on how to travel light and keep your packing minimal.

Alright, let's do this...

1. PLAN AHEAD

Yes, this is the first and most important part of traveling. From scouting for cheaper flight options to time, schedule, and days of stay, planning ahead helps you stay organized and saves you the stress of doing everything at the eleventh hour. If you plan on traveling anytime soon, you can get started by checking out cheap flights from Lagos to New York . Book your cheap flights and ensure you get to the airport as early as possible to avoid traffic and "stories that touch"

2. DO YOU REALLY NEED THIS?

It is not surprising that most times when you pack to travel, you tend to pack a whole lot, thinking you may need it all. The downside of it all is that you either miss out on packing the most important things, or you end up packing both the things you need and the ones you don't. Before you know it, you're packing the whole house as your luggage. One trick that works for me when packing is to look at an item, and ask myself "Do I Really Need This.?". On the long run, minimal packing is all about taking your basic necessities; so before you throw in that fancy water-bottle or that special bedside pillow, ask yourself "Do You Really Need This.?"

 3. KEEP YOUR LUGGAGE SIMPLE

This is the next step to packing, after planning and picking out the things you really need. Light clothing items (T-shirts, pants, shorts, etc) can be rolled instead of folded, to create space for more items. If well rolled can fit into a laptop backpack. Toiletries, which should be in smaller containers or tubes, should be neatly packed in a purse and kept in a backpack.
Jansport backpacks are always my favorite when it comes to choice of backpacks in Nigeria because of its large space compartment, and also a unique, interesting exterior that makes it easy to identify from afar, in case of a misplaced luggage or situation. Besides, you won't have to experience such circumstances with backpacks.

4. ALWAYS HAVE YOUR VALUABLES HANDY

Keeping your valuables handy and accessible can never be underestimated. You don't want to get to the airport/terminal and realize that your wallet or passport is missing, or you mistakenly forgot it at home (...that would really be stressful, if you ask me). This is why its important to always have a backpack to carry all the basic, handy items you need to be available as you carry it along. Having a backpack is also an added advantage as it gives your arms freedom to carry/do other things. The key thing here is to keep your items where you can get to them.

5. CROSS-CHECK.! CROSS-CHECK.!! CROSS-CHECK.!!!

Always make a mental list of your luggage and items that you have for the journey, and cross-check them a day or two before travel day (if possible). Nothing gives you peace mind than knowing that everything is ready and in its right place.
On a final note, the beautiful part of traveling is not just the experience, but also having the ultimate skill of packing minimally and smart, traveling light, as well as having a smooth and comfy journey.
